While running her own Furniture Design and Manufacture business for 17 years, exhibiting and selling work world-wide, Jakki has judged acclaimed design competitions and taught and lectured in France, Denmark, Australia, America, China, Japan and the UK.

Currently a Reader at Kingston University, teaching Product and Furniture Design, Jakki instigated an international research programme in 1994, investigating from a design perspective, the aesthetic, economic and manufacturing potential of waste materials. Supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council she curated two travelling exhibitions about this research; Re-Materialize in 1996 and Creative Resource in 2006.

Rematerialise, her unique, physical, sustainable materials library at Kingston University containing over 1,200 material samples from 22 countries has initiated considerable interest from designers, educators, researchers and industry, leading to major collaborations between the product design students and companies including; IKEA of Sweden, Transport for London, Continental Tyres (Germany), Coillte (Ireland) and Marks and Spencer.
