Karen is a practitioner, lecturer and researcher working with Digital Media. She has been working with audio visual technology since 1987 making performance, installation and screen based works.

Karen is committed to exploring the poetic potential of media technologies within a critical context. To this end she teaches reflexive practive in digital media arts at both under and post graduate level.

Current research interests include how media semantics might inform digital semiotics, computational media aesthetics and design for interaction.

Current Research Projects:
Karen is developing a computational media semantics project in collaboration with The Open University's Knowledge Media Institute to develop an interactive authoring environment for communication design which can also function as a generative system. She is also developing various applications of alternative graphics for urban screens
