Simon Maidment

Head of School


Simon Maidment trained at the Royal College of Art in Furniture Design and won a Commendation for his thesis on Perceived Qualities and Associations of Materials. From 1992 to 1994 he was Project Manager with Tom Dixon's Space and a visiting lecturer at the University of Plymouth. Since 1993 Maidment has run his own design consultancy SAM Design Ltd undertaking projects with Mathmos UK, Authentics Germany, Glass Designs UK, Oreka Kids UK, Levis Europe, Alessi Italy and Driade Italy.

Before taking up his appointment at Kingston University, Maidment was a BA Product and Furniture Design course leader at Kent Institute of Art & Design, Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication and a guest Professor at Bejing Institute of Art & Design, China.

Maidment is a Full Member of the D&AD and an External Examiner, Edinburgh College of Art: BA and MA Furniture and Product Design; Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts, FRSA; Discussion Panel Member: 100% Design, London; Chair: Product Design Conference, Institute of Learning, London; Visiting Lecturer: Royal College of Art, London.
