The attributes of the square shape that I have previously discussed have been of great use to the design of logos.
A strong example of this, is that a very commonly used way to attach gravity, to attract attention and denote importance has been to frame a name, an icon or a symbol within a square.
Compared to the circle, another visually strong basic shape, the ability of the square shape to rotate, has been an invaluable provider of design solutions in logo design.
Using square shapes a designer can create a three dimensional image in a pure black and white environment by skewing a square or placing multiple squares in different angles. In the same case if a designer decides to give a 3d perspective to a circle the solution will have to be more complicated using a gradient or curved lines resulting in added noise.
All the shapes shown bellow are strong visual examples of the extended use of the square in the field of logo design.
