Graduate Diploma Creative Practice

This course is designed to provide the opportunity for students, who already have a degree in a related discipline and are intending to apply to one of our MA courses, to benefit from the design education offered at Kingston. The programme can be tailored individually to complement your strengths and to provide the essential communication design skills and knowledge for your application to an MA course.

Your course of study is based on the content and standard of your portfolio at entry and your creative ambitions as discussed with tutors at interview. The aim will be to build up a strong portfolio of relevant project work which clearly demonstrates your developing intellectual and practical strengths.

What will you study?

  • One day a week is dedicated to Contextual Studies lectures and group seminars. Depending on your study route you will either be based in the studio or out on location for the remainder of the week.
  • Practical studio work provides you with the basis from which your personal vision develops and finds expression.
  • Studio-based projects introduce and provide you with a firm foundation in working with others, vital for all design disciplines.
  • The value of research, exploring both through first-hand enquiry and secondary resources, such as books and films, as a basis for project and personal development.
  • Projects are designed to help you to develop both creative, flexible thinking, your technical skills and your understanding of the need for a variety of approaches to any given subject or brief.
