Ultimate Portable device of the future!

Here is the development of the design of the imaginary device imagined from 1984.

Initial sketches:

Rough collage:

Polished version with CD:

The features it has from the top:

A built in speaker taken from a boom box, instant fax messaging coming out the side (thats from a 80s cash till), a camera lens (from a poloroid camera) which takes pictures, shoots video and makes video calls, It has a solar panel down the side (taken from a calculator), screen for making video calls, watching movies and playing games (the image is of Michal Douglas in ‘Wall St’ – the film which famously showed him on the first mobile phone), a CD drive for playing music, and a games controler functions taken from a Nintendo at the bottom.

in context with different glow options:

I like the blue because it fits with the background but the green seems to fit best with the figure. any thoughts?

Other wise I think it might be done?

Layout Options for Process:

I tried a few different layouts keeping the various suggestions in mind:

I don’t think it makes sense to have both the hand and the pencil. Personally, I prefer the pencil, not sure why. Just do. A slightly brighter one:

It can be brighter, if required. I just thought making the surroundings muted would make the type stand out more. I am going to upload all these and the psd to Dropbox so that Aleksandra can work on them as needed.

Also, I am aware that the left side must now read ‘Design is…’. I have the file for that and I’ll upload it to Dropbox as well. It can easily be replaced.

Process

I was trying some versions for process doors.

These are ones with old diamonds + new layout.

These are ones with font in diamond.

I am not sure if these layouts are too messy- maybe I can try to clean them little. I was just trying to make them look like page inside sketch book. (so maybe it’s okay to be messy.. not sure).

Also I didn’t managed to print trials because I got them too late- because of saturday (office closes at 1pm and time difference). I will print all on 2nd and 3rd if needed. So I hope we can have final versions before that.

Fashion mixture

Hello guys.

I tried to mix Aleks and Echo’s work on the issue.

I felt free to change the copy a bit, instead of ‘it is design’ can be ‘there is design’ to avoid being a little definitive? And also if we are already saying ‘products’ maybe skip that part? It is included anyway in the second option.

I would also make darker some parts of the background for the font to be read properly, as well as cloning the right watch on Echo’s pic.

About the word

For me I think this work is quite good! I think maybe we just need to think about the colour and the thickness of the line.

And I used to think the word like these styles. They are easier to recognize but ugly.

I think this one is good.

Here are some fonts (block’s letter and handwriting). How about using them into this illustration?

Product part some samples

Hi everyone,

I just tried some more fonts to match our product part look more like a fashion magazine cover. But I cant find the font of “DESIGN IS PRODUCTS”, i think the previous one is better then mine. ( The font in mine is  Baskerville old face)

1. Font of ” FORM” and “FUNCTION”–Stencil Std

Font of “Whether…”–Charcoal CY

2. Font the same as 1, some more change with “F”and “M” in “FORM” part.

3. Font of ” FORM” and “FUNCTION”–Trajan Pro

Font of “Whether…”–Trajan Pro

4. Font of ” FORM” and “FUNCTION”–Headline A

Font of “Whether…”–Microsoft Sans Serif

Which do u think is better? Or if need some more changes, just let me know.

:D

Progress on progress

I had a look through some of the photos I took of 80s technology magazines and this one stood out as a good model for the progress panels.

I still need to do the phone but otherwise I think the background is done? I had a go at doing some layout ideas and came up with these versions trying out different ways of incorporating the Design is: progress.

I like the font for the main headline as it closely matches the one from the add – is the underline good? maybe it should go above and below…

The font for Design is: Progress is the font from Bladerunner which fits with the idea of 80s futurism. And I think that placing the text centrally works, sort of reminds me of starwars… is it clear enough? will it read when its on the doors? It could be in a different font to the header maybe…

any thoughts?
